CARIBBEAN TRAVEL KIOSK

Self-Initiated Concept Design Project

This self-assigned project explores the design of a themed Caribbean travel information kiosk inspired by resort architecture and cruise port environments. The goal was to create a small-scale architectural icon that could function as both a guest services location and a visually engaging placemaking element within a themed destination.

The design was developed in SketchUp and drew inspiration from Caribbean colonial architecture, colorful island streetscapes, and Disney Vacation Club kiosks. Reference imagery was studied to understand how compact structures can communicate atmosphere, brand identity, and destination appeal while remaining operationally practical.

The kiosk combines vibrant tropical color palettes, open-air arches, layered rooflines, and elevated lookout-style forms to create a welcoming and recognizable silhouette. Special attention was given to proportion, guest visibility, and how the structure would read from a distance within a larger themed environment.

The project included:

  • Architectural concept development

  • Reference and precedent research

  • Hand sketch exploration

  • 3D modeling in SketchUp

  • Presentation rendering

  • Basic elevation drafting

This exercise was created as a way to further develop themed architectural design and visualization skills while exploring how small-scale environments can contribute to storytelling and guest immersion.
